A European doctoral network for the next generation of researchers
Around 15-20% of cancers worldwide are linked to infections, yet the molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. TagTIC is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network exploring how pathogens contribute to gastrointestinal cancers and how these insights can lead to new biomarkers, diagnostics, and therapies. Bringing together leading universities, research centres, biotech partners, and communication experts across Europe, TagTIC offers a unique PhD experience at the intersection of microbiology, oncology, AI, imaging, multi-omics, and drug discovery.

Four connected research pillars
From fundamental mechanisms to translational application, TagTIC is built as an integrated scientific pipeline
The project brings together four core research areas:
- Microbial oncogenesis
- Tumour evolution and resistance
- Target discovery and therapeutic innovation
- Integrated multi-omics, imaging and AI
Together, these pillars create a coherent framework in which doctoral candidates work across disciplines and contribute to shared scientific objectives with strong translational potential.
